SUMMER FINDS
I am obsessed with rompers and jumpsuits. Anything that I can throw on, look put together and go, go, go is golden.
The jumpsuit was invented in 1919 by an Italian futurist, Florentine Thayat, with the intent to liberate everyday workers - specifically, aviators, parachutists, skiers and race car drivers - with the one-piece, minimalist design. Easy to make, easy to wear. Instead, high society took a massive liking to it and in the following decades Sofia Loren, Liz Taylor and Jackie Kennedy expressed their own versions of the new, effortless chic. Later, David Bowie and Elvis Presley dazzled in all the glamorous camp one pull of cloth could muster.
For a time, the look took a backseat, but it has returned with a vengeance. Dress it up, dress it down, the jumpsuit/romper is (and will probably always be) a classic go-to in my book.
I'm all over these summer finds:
